Brief post about a study published today in the Journal of American Medical Association (JAMA) about Los Angeles COVID-19 infection.
“Medical Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2–Specific Antibodies Among Adults in Los Angeles County, California, on April 10-11, 2020”
- 1952 individuals in LA County invited to participate in antibody testing
- 1702 provided consent
- 865 were tested, others did not show up, 2 were faulty kits
- 35 of the 863 tested were positive for the SARS-COV2 antibodies – which is 4.06%, statistically adjusted for other factors to 4.65%
- this was a random sample that was representative of the entire LA county population
- by this calculation approximately 367,000 adults had SARS-CoV-2 antibodies in LA County
- this is substantially greater than the official number of 8430 confirmed infections in the county on April 10
- this means that the death rate (case fatality rate) is way lower than what we have been told officially because the denominator is now 367,000 and not 8430.
